Projects
Here you’ll find info on resto-mod 1966 F250 named “Fordite” and a collection of other projects I’m working on. Most of these feature a non-traditional approach to car restoration, involving 3D design and rapid prototyping techniques. Fordite is more of a hacking platform than a restoration. My aim is to come up with some interesting ways to ‘hide’ current technology in the confines of period looking controls. I want to enable all the creature comforts of modern vehicles in an otherwise old hunk of steel.
My secondary goal is to build out a set of tools and a workflow to teach my two sons about. My goals to have all available tools at the ready for projects as they grow up. Most importantly, I believe that building, using one’s hands, is a future-valuable skillset. Moreover, one that will be important to my country, too. My hope is to balance the availability of the virtual with an abundance of the physical, so my boys grow up to be well rounded polymaths (like me perhaps).
Aside from the main truck project, I aim to fill these halls with interesting posts about my CNC mill conversion, my 3D printers, 3D scanning, my CNC plasma cutter, my (future) CNC router, and a host of other interesting machines. This category is a landing spot for information on all of these, as well as a few I haven’t thought of yet. If it combines motion control, electronics, and computers, you can be sure to find me wading into the middle of it.
